[ The box beckons to you, almost like a gleaming ray of hope in the otherwise uneasy room. But as your hand reaches to touch the box, a slight hand reaches to touch your shoulder. ]

[ stops, then ]

Excuse me, my apologies. I did not know someone was in this room.

[ A slim young man wearing a yukata stands before you. His hair is short, dark— though his expression is darker still, a mask of still anger. ] You shouldn't play with other people's things, you know. It's rude.

[counterfaith]

Ah, I was only curious. My apologies.

This is your room, then?

[marezydoats]

My room...? You could say that. [ The young man gestures around. ] Everything in this house belongs to me. Especially them.

[counterfaith]

Them, you say?

[marezydoats]

Yes, of course... the members of the Zodiac. In the end, all of them belong to me.

[counterfaith]

Are they dolls of yours?

[marezydoats]

Dolls? [ The young man looks startled. ] Ah... I suppose you could say that. They're my playthings, you see. Sometimes I break them, but that's okay. They're mine, after all. Anything I do to them is okay.

[counterfaith]

. . . I think that's rather irresponsible, as a toy owner . . .

[marezydoats]

Is it? [ The young man waves his hand carelessly. ] Ah, I suppose it can't be helped, though. When I get angry at my toys, I can't help it. I lose track of what's going on and then everything's been broken.

[counterfaith]

Perhaps you could do with a bit of meditation. Throwing tantrums as an adult is no good.

[marezydoats]

Ah...? You really should watch what you say, you know. I'm the head of the Sohma household. A little respect is called for when dealing with me.

[counterfaith]

Of course, I speak with the utmost respect. Though, I must say, I'm quite concerned to hear that a child is the head of an entire household. Times must be hard on your family.

[marezydoats]

I've been the head of household for many years. [ Says the man who can't possibly be older than nineteen or twenty. ] And the house is prosperous, so it can't be doing too badly under me.

[counterfaith]

I commend your servants and your relatives, then.

Tell me, do you believe in God?

[marezydoats]

[ The young man chuckles. ] Do I believe in God...! Oh certainly, you could say that...!

[counterfaith]

Really now? Just one or many?

[marezydoats]

Are we to get into a theology discussion? [ The young man looks bored. ] Religion aside, there's only one "God" that matters most.

[counterfaith]

It's only out of curiosity I ask.

Who do you believe to be "God"?

[marezydoats]

[ The young man chuckles again. ] Don't be coy... You already know what I'm going to say, don't you?

[counterfaith]

I would hate to be so disrespectful as to misunderstand you by leaping to conclusions.

[marezydoats]

[ The young man grins enigmatically. ] Of course you wouldn't. Very well, then; I'll spell it out for you. I am God.

[counterfaith]

I see. Then I have been very disrespectful to you, Lord.

Then, please tell me. For what reason are you on this Earth? For what reason have you stepped down from the heavens?
